Original Lecture - May 1, 1995:

Cloves have long been used in traditional remedies for their antimicrobial and digestive-supportive properties. This simple clove infusion is sometimes used as a seasonal ritual in the spring.
How to prepare and use clove water:
Place a small handful of whole cloves into a ceramic or porcelain bowl
Add water to cover the cloves
Let the mixture soak overnight at room temperature
In the morning, before eating or drinking anything else, take:
3–4 spoonfuls on an empty stomach
Do not exceed 5 spoonfuls
Take it first thing in the morning (for example, when you’re getting ready or brushing your teeth)
You can prepare a larger batch to last 3–4 days:
Store it in the refrigerator
Use a fresh spoon each time
Suggested rhythm:
Use daily throughout the month of May
Traditionally, this is done as a short seasonal practice, for the month of May only, rather than year-round
Context and tradition:
This recipe was shared by Yogi Bhajan in May 1995 as a way to support the body during seasonal transitions. In that tradition, spring is seen as a time when the body may be more vulnerable, and simple daily rituals like this are intended to help maintain balance. Clove is believed to have protective qualities, especially for areas like the throat and upper respiratory tract, which are often the body’s first point of contact with environmental stressors.
